Introducing POPS Beta
– Make your online presentations pop!

We’re just over a year into the pandemic and the need to present engaging material digitally has never been greater. The same applies for investigators, who need to present the critical contents of their case reports for a variety of stakeholders.

Never before have we had to sit through as many online presentations as we do now—and Powerpoint and Keynote presentations became boring to watch a long time ago. They are quite rigid to work with too when it comes to presenting material via Teams, Slack, Zoom, or similar digital meeting platforms. Especially if you need to present PDF files.

Luckily, we have a solution that will help us all break free from the monotony.

Paliscope Online Presentation Studio

Today, we’re excited to present Paliscope Online Presentation Studio (POPS) Beta 1.0. A unique presentation software that elevates your online presentations by making them more interesting and engaging to watch—while giving you better control over the process.

With POPS, you can effortlessly transform old, boring presentations into an experience that resembles a professional news broadcast with a true broadcasting feel. For investigators, POPS is the perfect ally for illuminating critical case report content, with the flexibility to adapt slides to different stakeholders on-the-fly.  It also works seamlessly with all the major video conferencing services.

To learn more, we had a chat with the
man behind POPS—Christian Berg.

How did the idea of POPS come about?

Lately, I’ve been giving a ton of online presentations, and I was getting tired of not being able to find a software that felt good enough for presenting my PDF files. I wanted to be able to convey a broadcast feeling at the same time that I needed to be flexible while giving my presentation, with the ability to zoom in and out to highlight different material in the PDF files.

“I quite simply developed POPS for my own needs. After each presentation I did with POPS, I got more and more ideas about what more could be developed or improved.”

Since I’m so used to working with the built-in PDF viewer in YOSE, I had lots of ideas for how I wanted a presentation tool for PDF files to work. But I couldn’t find anything that lived up to my ideal. So I decided to develop it myself, based on the technology stack in the YOSE PDF Viewer. The goal I set was to create something that would allow me to present my material in a nice and clear way, and get more engagement from recipients, while at the same time, making it very easy for myself to control it during the presentation.

So that’s where it comes from. I quite simply developed POPS for my own needs. After each presentation I did with POPS, I got more and more ideas about what more could be developed or improved. I worked on it during the evenings while I was watching over my sick children and needed something to help me stay awake.

“POPS can also be used for presenting so much more besides reports. But that is another matter. Anyone, regardless of whether you are an investigator or not, can download and use POPS.”

During this time, the Paliscope team was also working on the new update of YOSE where they implemented a technology to hardware accelerate the interface. And that technology is something that POPS really benefits from. It was the key that enabled me to give POPS the smooth feeling that I think the program has, which is so important for a presentation.

When I then started to present my material with POPS, a lot of people were impressed and started asking me what I did to make my presentations so nice and engaging. That was when I realized that this could be something that more people could benefit from. Especially our users who, these days, often need to present long PDF case reports digitally.

How does POPS fit in with Paliscope’s ecosystem of products?

Paliscope is a company dedicated to helping investigators solve more cases in less time. We support law enforcement, government, and enterprise investigators along every step of the investigative journey. So POPS is a natural extension, allowing us to now cover even the final step: presenting case reports in the best way possible.

Of course, POPS can also be used for presenting so much more besides reports. But that is another matter. Anyone, regardless of whether you are an investigator or not, can download and use POPS.

How can people get hold of POPS?

Right now, we have decided to publish POPS completely free of charge. So it is free for anyone to download a copy of the program here on our website. Currently, POPS only works for Windows. But, depending on how the response is, more operating systems may be covered in the future.
