Meet Niklas Trygg – Hooked on creating high-performing worlds and making a difference

How would you describe yourself as a person?

I strive to be a fair, open-minded and straightforward person. I hope I reach that goal to at least some extent.

What is your role at Paliscope?

Backend architect and developer.

What first sparked your interest in the field of software development?

About a gazillion years ago, my brother and I followed a guide to create a (very) simple western quick-draw game on a computer called VIC 20. I did not have much of a clue about what was happening then, but I became fascinated with how, by providing rudimentary instructions in the form of code, a whole new world could be created, designed after one’s own ideas and machinations. The opponent could be slow and easy-peasy lemon squeezy to beat, or as hard as a digital Dirty Harry, we could make him tall or short or we could even make his hat green, red or pink! This was a game changer for me (pun definitely intended), and I was hooked like a hungry perch.

Why did you decide to start working at Paliscope?

I was presented with a compelling opportunity to (re)create a functioning and popular program from scratch, addressing the need for proper architecture and utilizing technology of today and a design that’s all our own, instead of patching up, administering or putting out fires in an ancient, barely functioning old ruckus of a codebase. The fact that the end result will also help make a positive difference in the world—instead of just handling people’s money or telling this or that machine to move things here or there—sealed the deal even more.

“The team is well-functioning, intelligent and smooth. I’m practically having the (work)time of my life!”

What are you working on right now?

Right now, we are working on the aforementioned rework of the existing application. We are making it server-based and multiuser oriented rather than a single instance installation.

What’s the best part of working at Paliscope? How do you experience the company culture?

I find the work challenging and enriching on both a personal and professional plane. At the same time, we are having a good time working together. The team is well-functioning, intelligent and smooth. I’m practically having the (work)time of my life!

Where can we find you when you’re not at work?

When I’m not working, I am probably either doing something with my kids, playing disc golf in the forest, or working in my wood shop.

What’s a fun fact we might not know about you?

I wrote the text to a lullaby for my kids, one verse for each of the three, and it has been sung to them every night for more than 11 years.
